Will AI replace Digital Forensics Analysts?
How much of this job can AI already do, and where it's heading.
What AI can do now
Significant exposureDigital forensics analysts face significant exposure to current AI. Tools now assist with building reverse-engineering software to find vulnerabilities, maintaining cyber defense systems, and recovering or decrypting seized data. Administrative tasks like duplicating digital evidence and following legal procedures for handling media are increasingly automated.
Where it's heading
Exposure is significant today and will deepen as AI becomes more capable at technical forensics tasks. The shift will be toward analysts spending more time on complex interpretation and strategic investigation design, while routine evidence processing and system maintenance become machine-assisted.
