The vast majority of the work, positioning stock through dies, setting pressures and ram strokes, installing tooling, and measuring finished parts, remains hands-on and beyond current automation.
What's coming
Exposure is minimal today and unlikely to grow quickly. AI may streamline some document interpretation or suggest setup parameters over time, but the physical manipulation, real-time adjustments, and machine tending that define this role are not targets for near-term software automation. The core skill set will remain centered on manual dexterity and mechanical knowledge.
