Will AI replace Mail Clerks and Mail Machine Operators, Except Postal Service?
Where AI already covers parts of this job, and where that line is moving.
Today
Limited exposureMail clerks and mail machine operators currently face limited exposure to AI. A few tasks involving computer-controlled equipment, such as using voice recognition to route items or answering routine inquiries about shipping policies, may see AI assistance. The majority of the work, wrapping packages by hand, inspecting machine output for defects, and physically moving sorted mail, remains manual and unchanged.
Where it's heading
Exposure is limited today and likely to remain so in the near term. AI may gradually handle more data entry and simple inquiries, but the physical nature of sorting, loading, and transporting mail resists automation. Growth in exposure will be slow, concentrated on administrative edges rather than core handling tasks.
