Will AI replace Manicurists and Pedicurists?
A task-level look at what AI can already do in this line of work, and what is likely to change next.
Today
Minimal exposureManicurists and pedicurists currently face minimal exposure to AI. The core work, shaping nails, applying polish, preparing cuticles, and sanitizing tools, remains entirely manual and tactile. The only tasks with any AI relevance are tracking inventory and booking appointments, which software can assist with but not replace the human touch required for the service itself.
The next few years
Exposure today is minimal and will remain so for the foreseeable future. AI cannot replicate the dexterity, judgment, and personal interaction central to nail care. Administrative edges like scheduling may become more automated, but the hands-on craft that defines the occupation will continue to require human skill.
