Will AI replace Postal Service Mail Sorters, Processors, and Processing Machine Operators?
Where AI already covers parts of this job, and where that line is moving.
Today
Minimal exposurePostal service mail sorters, processors, and processing machine operators face minimal exposure to current AI. A couple of tasks, like routing items using computer systems or searching directories for correct addresses, involve digital lookup that AI can assist with. The vast majority of the work, checking physical mail condition, clearing jams, bundling and routing sorted items, and operating sorting equipment, remains hands-on and outside AI's reach.
Where it's heading
Exposure is minimal today and likely to stay that way. AI may streamline some address lookup or routing logic over time, but the physical handling, equipment operation, and real-time problem solving that define this occupation are not moving toward automation in the near term.
