Will AI replace Tile and Stone Setters?
Where AI already covers parts of this job, and where that line is moving.
Today
Minimal exposureTile and stone setters have minimal exposure to current AI. The vast majority of the work is physical: cutting and fitting tile, mixing and applying adhesive, aligning pieces, and finishing grout. A few planning tasks, such as preparing cost and labor estimates or determining the best layout to achieve a pattern, could see some AI assistance, but these are a small fraction of the job.
The next few years
Exposure is minimal today and will remain low. The core craft of setting tile and stone resists automation because it requires manual dexterity, on-site problem solving, and adaptation to irregular surfaces. AI may streamline some estimating or layout software, but the physical installation will stay in human hands for the foreseeable future.
